Complete with illustrations, Pickover's book entertains, informs, and invites his readers old and new to test their powers of lateral thinking and to see the world in a fresh way.
"Sex, Drugs, Einstein, and Elves is quite a book and fully a close encounter with Clifford Pickover's amazing mind. The book made me wish I could spend a few hours with Dr. Pickover just picking his brain. ...the book is a tour de force." -- Science Editor, Harvard University Press World-renowned science writer Cliff Pickover explores the borderlands of science in his latest and greatest work. Part memoir and part surrealistic perspective on culture, Pickover gives readers a glimpse of new ways of thinking and of other worlds as he reaches across cultures and peers beyond our ordinary reality. Unlock the doors of your imagination with topics ranging from fugu sushi and zombies to Proust, psychedelics, quantum theory, New York literary agents, strange Bibles, and the wisdom of Einstein and Holiday-Inn founder Kemmons Wilson. Sex, Drugs, Einstein, and Elves is the hammer that shatters the ice of our unconscious. Clifford A. Pickover received his Ph.D. from Yale University and is the author of thirty highly acclaimed books on science, mathematics, art, and religion. His web site, Pickover.com, has received several million visits.
"Clifford Pickover's ability to connect various fields of understanding is a true display of synthesis to reveal wholes greater than their parts. At the same time he can analyze a subject to extract the one or two things he needs in yet another larger insight. He is a deep sea diver, and a stellar voyager."
--George Zebrowski, John W. Campbell Prize winner for Brute Orbits"Dr. Pickover's book made me want to read Proust, eat sushi, and contemplate parallel universes. Of course, I've done all those things before but Pickover's joyfully whimsical and lucid writing style reminded me why."
-- Ken Goffman aka RU Sirius, author of Counterculture Through The Ages"Cliff Pickover is a believer whose faith in the marvelous nature of the universe is uniquely revealed through his skillful employment of the skeptic's razor. Stripping away the veil that hides the unseen realms of the possible, SDE&E offers glints of the spectacular rewards to be grasped when science and the Socratic method are trained, where they ought to be, on the sublime and the mysterious."
-- Charles Hayes, author of Tripping: An Anthology of True-Life Psychedelic Adventures"A truly stunning doorway to other universes and ways of thinking. Pickover's latest work provides a collection of ideas at the frontiers of science, art, and culture. He engages the reader on a journey of self-discovery."
-- Paul Moskowitz, Ph.D. , Inventor with 60 US Patents, and Wheel-of-Fortune champion"Warning! Proceed with extreme caution! Sex, Drugs, Einstein, & Elves is a dangerously psychoactive and highly addictive book. I simply could not put this book down! Clifford Pickover's hallucinogenic orgy of paradigm-shifting ideas is guaranteed to increase your intelligence and expand your mind, but--trust me--after reading this book, you will never see reality the same again." --David Jay Brown, author of Mavericks of the Mind and Conversations on the Edge of the Apocalypse
"Reading this book is like taking a ride in a very fast car down a mountainous highway with thousands of hairpin bends. At each bend is a sign that flashes information. Just as you get towards the bottom of the mountain, whoops, spinout, back upwards towards the summit. Fasten your seat belts kiddies! Sushi! God! Lord of The Rings! William S. Burroughs! Marcel Proust! DMT! LSD! Brain Surgery! Stellar Nucleosynthesis! plus hundreds of dissimilar titles are like signposts to snippets of information that even the most well read, educated reader will never have heard of. ... This book is full of inspirational information, challenges to broaden our understanding of obscure though important areas of knowledge and fascinating little-known facts. Throughout the book Pickover hints at areas of science where concentrated research would most likely yield valuable knowledge. One such area concerns the visions and transcendence experienced by people from different cultures using the drug DMT. The book is highly entertaining, easy to read, and will be a good reference book for more things than you, I, or Horatio ever dreamed of." -- Leonardo Journal (2006)

Mr. Pickover,First thanks for such a great book. I didn't read it, I consumed it as it consumed me. It is a great book which I have began sharing with others. Much of it reaffirmed many of my own ideas, beliefs, concepts, and realities. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it brainwashed me into running right out to the bookstores and buying as many of your other books as I could find. I can hardly wait to read some of them and they are in line to be consumed here shortly.
Thanks,
Darrell Shaver
Boise, IDHi Dr. Pickover,
I am on page 223 and enjoying every second of the read. In fact, your book and new research indicating that my daily coffee is a powerful anti-oxidant are the highlights of the month!
Again, your book is a consciousness-expanding delight - let's hope this is the first of many books in which you will interweave personal anecdotes/biography with your material. It really does make for a human (and humane) approach.
A day later: Well, I am now experiencing that peculiar feeling when a really good read is coming to an end. Too soon, too soon...the only critical comment I can toss at you is that the book is too short! Is there a word to describe the sense of regret at finishing a great book? Bibliobandonment, perhaps?
