Norma L. Briggs, our friend, teacher, dancer, and mentor, passed away on April 30, 2015, at age 79. Norma was one of the first certified teachers in the group, and its mainstay for four decades. Her leadership and tenacity sustained the group through both lean and prosperous years. Along with her husband, Mike, she welcomed dancers into her home and stunning garden, hosting hundreds of dance parties, brunches, demo practices, and Thanksgiving dinners. Norma's love of Scottish Country Dancing and her concern for the future of the group led her to advocate for children's classes and to organize a teacher training course. The result is a thriving branch for all ages, and a cadre of new teachers throughout the Midwest who owe their certificates to her drive and guidance. She was a pillar in the group who also had a big heart. She will be greatly missed by the many dancers, teachers, musicians and friends whose lives she touched.
